The park contains 2300 acres of rolling sandhills and long leaf pines, with several lakes and a ravine with seepage springs cutting through the park for approximately 1.5 miles. The park is home to bald eagles, Sherman's fox squirrels, gopher tortoises, red cockaded woodpeckers, various snakes, hawks, fox, and numerous songbirds. The park´s river and two lakes provide ample opportunities for boating, freshwater fishing, canoeing, and kayaking; a boat ramp provides access to Upper Myakka Lake. Eight trails provide opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and bicycling. Ranger-led activities are offered on weekends, November through April. Fishing on Lake Wauberg is allowed and a boat ramp provides access for canoes and boats with electric motors. Gasoline powered boats are not allowed.
