The Preserve contains over 5,000 acres and stretches more than 10 miles from Ft. Pierce to Jensen Beach. It encompasses parts of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge, savanna-like wetlands and pine flatwoods. The preserve is the largest freshwater marsh system along the southeast coast of Florida.

Hours of Operation
Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until sundown 365 days a year.

Driving Directions
The Environmental Education Center is is located approximately 2 miles east of US 1 on Walton Road in Port St. Lucie.

Bicycling, Canoeing, Fishing, Nature Trails, Horse Trails, and Wildlife Viewing

Canoeing
Fresh water marshes or “Savannas” once extended all along the southeast coast of Florida. Much of this ecosystem has been developed. You can canoe with your volunteer guide through the largest and most intact remnant of “savannas” found on the southeast coast of Florida. This program is presented on the 1st Saturday of the month @ 9am, the 2nd Wednesday of the month @ 9am, the 3rd Sunday of the month @ 2pm, and the 4th Thursday of the month @ 9am; from October through May. Reservations are required and space is limited. Contact us at (772)398-2779 (Wednesday through Sunday) to make reservations.

Nature Trails
There are over 8 ½ miles of multi-use trails available to park visitors. These trails are shared by hikers, bicyclists, and horseback riders. There is a designated equestrian area set up for riders to park trailers and unload their horses.
